Drive through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park, about 948 square kilometers in area. The Cabot Trail consists of mountains, valleys, waterfalls, rocky coastlines, and Acadian and Boreal forests. DAY 1 – Arrive in Halifax, NS.

Arrive at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. After picking up your luggage, proceed to the Rental Deport at the airport to collect your rental car and drive to your hotel in downtown Halifax.

Rest of the day free to explore downtown Halifax.


  • Halifax sits on the second largest natural harbour in the world.  The city is famous for its great maritime history, beautiful waterfront area and great seafood.
  • Stroll though Barrington Street, one of the most popular and possibly one of the oldest streets in Halifax. 
  • Spend time on Argyle Street.  The street is pedestrian only and is famous for its restaurants and amazing nightlife.
  • Citadel Hill – if you can make it to noon, you can bear witness to the “Noon Gun Habit”, a cannon that goes off really loud.

DAY 2 – Halifax to Beddeck.

Driving Distance: 350 KM

Check-out after breakfast and get ready to leave Halifax.  Before you leave Halifax and head to Cape Breton Island, take time to visit The Citadel.

Later drive across the Canso Causeway to Cape Breton Island and onward to Beddeck.


  • Visit The Citadel in downtown Halifax.
  • The Citadel is the highest point in Halifax and was built in 1749 as a strategic base for the British Royal Navy.  Its one of the most visited places in Halifax and will take you a full hour to walk around and see the place.
  • Crossing the Canso Causeway, head to Caper Breton, also known as the Scotland of North America, to reach Beddeck.  Beddeck is the beginning and end of the world-famous Cabot’s Trail.  Beddeck stretching along the beautiful Bras d'Or Lake and is a bustling little village in bloom from spring to autumn with a kaleidoscope of colours in baskets, boxes, and gardens along its downtown shopping core.
  • Visit the Alexander Graham National Historic Site. Discover the many accomplishments of this Alexander Gram, who made his home on the island his home.
  • Dining in Beddeck is gastronomes dream come true.  Indulge in the taste of your vacation as you enjoy a truly authentic Cape Breton meal.  Relax as you enjoy the famous lobster boils all the marveling at the panoramic view of the sparkling Bras d’Or Lake. Enjoy the nightly Ceilidhs or lively theatre productions.

DAY 3 – Tour the Cabot Trail..

Driving Distance: 526 KM

Start early this morning on a tour of the Cabot Trail. As you hug the world-famous Cabot Trail coastline you will wind through Cape Breton Highlands National Park, where lush, forested river canyons carve into the ancient plateau, edged by rust-coloured cliffs.  


  • Keep your eyes open for moose and bald eagles. You might even catch a minke or pilot whale breaking waves in the Atlantic, or Gulf of St. Lawrence. And you’re never far from a steaming plate of local lobster fresh from the ocean around you. 
  • Explore the park’s 26 scenic trails, from easy forested walks to sloping coastal hikes. Cape Breton Highlands National Park's hiking trails range from easy strolls to challenging climbs with panoramic views of canyons, highlands, and seacoasts. The trails provide a chance to intimately explore the complex habitat of northern Cape Breton Island. 
  • Skyline Trail – Make sure to visit this trail.  At the end the Skyline Trail, A dramatic headland cliff overlooks the rugged coast from the end of this level trail. You will enjoy an eagle's view of the Cabot Trail.  Watch out for whales in the Gulf of St. Lawrence from the viewing decks. This habitat is populated by bald eagles, bears and numerous boreal birds live in this habitat.

DAY 4 – Beddeck to Halifax.

Today you will drive from Beddeck to Halifax.


  • Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, the largest historical reconstruction in North America. For the best experience, you must set aside at least 4 hours.  Costumed animators, fascinating exhibits, breathtaking scenery, and coastal trails offer unforgettable experiences for all travellers.  Encircled by Cape Breton’s rocky shoreline, the Fortress of Louisbourg transports you to French colonial past between 1713 and 1758. Home of L’nu, also known as the Mi’kmaq, the 18th century brought French, Basque, German, English, Irish, Scottish, and African people to its shores. Visitors are afforded unforgettable experiences by costumed animators, fascinating exhibits, breathtaking scenery, and coastal trails offer for all travellers.

DAY 5 – End of your Cape Breton Island Tour..
