This self-drive itinerary is designed to offer visitors, with limited time and budget, the best vacation in the scenic Rockies of Canada. Within a short period of 6 days, you get to visit not just three amazing national parks in the region, but also have a jaw-dropping and once-in-a-lifetime experience of the Columbia Icefield Skywalk. 

Enjoy the picturesque views of the Sulphur Mountains from the world-famous Banff Gondola Ride. The stunning Glacier Lake of Minnewanka, the Bow Falls, the historic Banff Springs Hotel and hiking, river rafting etc. are some of the chief attractions of Banff. Witness nature at its best at the Yoho National Park. Finally, visit Jasper, the alpine town of Canada. Snow-capped Canadian Rockies surrounding the park, glacier-fed lakes, wild forests and winding rivers await tourists visiting the beautiful town. The Jasper SkyTram will let you revel in the stunning beauty of gorgeous mountain ranges and the Athabasca Valley.

Itinerary

DAY 1 – Arrive into Banff.

Arrive at Calgary International Airport. After picking up your luggage, proceed to the Rental Deport at the airport to collect your rental car. 

Highlights:

Enjoy the constantly changing landscape as you drive up on HWY 1 from Calgary to Banff. The road trip to Banff features stunning vistas of the Front Range of Canadian Rockies and the towering Rocky peaks. 

Reach Banff and check into your hotel.

Hotel Check-in - 4:00 PM. 

Rest of the day you are free to explore the resort town. Mt. Rundle and Mt. Cascade, part of the Banff skyline, offer majestic views. Walk around Banff Avenue and find amazing boutiques, souvenir shops, and the chateau-style hotels. The 6500 sq km of parkland around the town homes elk and grizzly bears.

DAY 2 – Explore Banff and Banff National Park.

Activities of the second day include visiting Banff National Park. Glacial lakes with turquoise water, a scenic mountain town and village, and rich wildlife come together in Banff National Park to give you an unparalleled experience. Canada’s first national park is visited by three million visitors a year. Things to do in Banff National Park include activities such as biking, skiing, hiking, and camping in one of the world’s most spectacular mountain scenery.

Banff Gondola - Experience the renowned Banff Gondola ride to the Sulphur Mountain Peak. The enchanting glide of 8 minutes lets you capture jaw-dropping vistas of the Sulphur Mountains from 2281 meters above. DAY 3 – Lake Louise & Yoho National Park Tour.

Enjoy the magic of Rockies at Yoho National Park BC, located in the western slopes of the Canadian Rockies. Meaning “Awe” in the Cree National Language, the place is a visual feast. Azure rivers, roaring waterfalls, the lush green pine, and towering peaks along with incredible hiking and sightseeing- the park offers a unique glimpse of Canada’s natural wonders.

DAY 4 – Icefield Parkway Tour from Banff to Jasper.

Driving Distance: 288 KMs.

Start early today to make the most of the viewing spots on the highway to Jasper. On the drive north along the Icefield Parkway, you will witness mind-blowing vistas, green meadows, beautiful river valleys, stunning peaks, and emerald-blue lakes. Spot elk, grizzly and black bears, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and moose as you drive.

  • Saskatchewan River Crossing,

At the Columbia Icefield, go on a Glacier Adventure tour already included in you Self Drive Package. You will board the specially built Ice Explorer to go on an adventure ride to the Columbia Icefield.  Later, walk along the cliff face on the Glacier Skywalk for spectacular views of the Columbia Icefield, Athabasca Glacier and the surrounding ranges and valleys.

Arrive early evening in Jasper and check into your hotel.

DAY 5 – Explore Jasper today.

DAY 6 – End of your tour.

End of your self-drive tour.  Check out of hotel and drive to YYC International Airport in Calgary.  Drop off your rental car on arrival.  The drive from Jasper to Calgary will take approx. 6 hours.

Alternatively, you may drive to Edmonton and drop your car off YEG International Airport.  The drive from jasper to Edmonton will take approximately 5 hours.
